Tinubu Names Hakeem Muri-Okunola as Principal Secretary in Key Appointment

Hakeem Muri-Okunola is now the principal secretary in President Bola Tinubu’s office. Up to his most recent position, Muri-Okunola headed the service in Lagos State.

Despite the fact that his appointment was kept a secret, THISDAY learned from dependable sources within the Presidency that the new hire received his letter of appointment on Friday and is scheduled to begin in his official capacity on Monday.

The day after President Tinubu would have left Abuja for New York, United States to attend the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Muri-Okunola, 51, graduated with a law degree from Lagos State University (LASU) and has a master’s degree in international business law from Queen Mary & Westfield College, University.

He was the revered late jurist Justice Muritala Okunola’s son.

Okunola, the new Personal Secretary to the President, is an experienced public administrator and technocrat.

He was at various times Associate Solicitor, Adepetun, Caxton-Martins and Agbor, Company Secretary/Legal Adviser at Ibile Holdings Limited, Personal Assistant to Governor of Lagos State, Executive Secretary, Land Use and Allocation Committee and Permanent Secretary in Lagos State Public Service.
