Suspects Allegedly Stole 100 Mobile Phones and 75 Music Players
The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended two 15-year-old students from Bakari Dukku Comprehensive Secondary School in connection with the alleged robbery of a phone store. The teenagers reportedly stole 100 mobile phones and 75 music players, among other items.
Details of the Arrest
According to the police spokesperson, Ahmed Wakil, the arrests followed a theft report made by the store owner. Upon receiving the report, police operatives launched an investigation, which ultimately led to the identification and arrest of the suspects.
Wakil explained, “Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police directed the ORP team, led by CSP Kim Albert, to investigate. The probe led to the arrest of Hamza Sadiq and Adamu Ahmadu.”
Modus Operandi
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to obtaining the key to the store from where it was kept for safekeeping. They carefully timed the store owner’s absence, which was due to a trip to the village market, and used this opportunity to repeatedly open the shop door and steal items during the day.
The suspects admitted that they sold some of the stolen mobile phones for prices ranging from N5,000 to N8,000, using the proceeds to purchase clothes, food, and a smartphone, which was later stolen from one of them.
Recovery of Stolen Items
The police managed to recover some of the stolen items, including 21 mobile phones, five MP4 players, one mobile phone charger, and a metal key.
Commitment to Crime Prevention
Wakil emphasized the police command’s commitment to combating crime in the state, stating that the suspects would be transferred to a remand home for rehabilitation upon the completion of the ongoing investigation.
This incident follows a recent report about the arrest of two students from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in Bauchi for suspected criminal conspiracy, housebreaking, and theft, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding youth involvement in crime in the area.
