Ex-Benue Governor Applauds Move to Boost Security and Economic Growth in the Region
Makurdi, Nigeria – February 6, 2025 – Former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has praised President Bola Tinubu for signing the North Central Development Commission (NCDC) Bill into law, describing it as a historic milestone for the region.
A Step Toward Stability and Growth
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, announced the signing of the NCDC bill during a session at the Senate Chamber on Tuesday.
Reacting to the news, Ortom called the development a pivotal moment in the ongoing efforts to address the security threats and economic challenges faced by the North Central region.
In a statement signed by his media aide, Terver Akase, and made available to journalists in Makurdi on Thursday, Ortom highlighted how the region has suffered over a decade of violence, with millions displaced and countless lives lost due to attacks by armed herders, bandits, and other criminal elements.
Tinubu’s Commitment to Regional Development
Ortom emphasized that the establishment of the NCDC reflects Tinubu’s dedication to addressing the concerns of Nigerians.
“The North Central Development Commission is not just another agency; it is a symbol of hope and resilience for communities devastated by years of unrest,” Ortom stated.
He further added that the people of North Central Nigeria have long yearned for intervention, and the recognition of their plight at the highest level of government is commendable.
Commendation for Legislative Efforts
Ortom also praised Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, for his role in sponsoring the NCDC Bill, acknowledging his dedication to peace and development.
“Senator Moro has once again demonstrated exceptional leadership by championing this cause. His efforts have been instrumental in bringing this vision to life,” Ortom said.
Additionally, he congratulated Dr. Titus Zam, the Senator representing Benue North West, on his appointment as the Chairman, Senate Committee on North Central Development Commission, and wished him success in ensuring the effective implementation of the commission’s mandate.
Call for Regional Support
The former governor urged the people of North Central Nigeria to fully support the NCDC to ensure it delivers on its mission of rebuilding communities, enhancing security, and promoting economic development.
