Sequel to his remarks, the leadership issued a strong disclaimer against the former vice-presidential candidate.
In an official rebuttal released to journalists on Saturday, the Labour Party, through its National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Arabambi Abayomi, and National Secretary, Umar Ibrahim, stated that Baba-Ahmed’s comments do not reflect the party’s official position and are deemed undemocratic.
According to Abayomi, the Labour Party disowns Datti Baba-Ahmed’s controversial comments and categorically dissociates itself from any remarks that could incite the Nigerian populace against the present administration.

Abayomi said, “We believed in our presidential and other candidates and contested the election vigorously. However, following the outcome of the election, we pursued the legal route to challenge the results up to the Supreme Court.”
Labour Party disowns Datti Baba-Ahmed and said that despite the Supreme Court’s final verdict not favoring the LP, the party said it accepted the judgment for the sake of national peace and stability. “Not because we were satisfied with the outcome, but because the ruling of the apex court must be respected as the final legal authority,” he added.

The party expressed shock over what it termed an “illegal and unconstitutional” meeting held in Abuja on April 9, reportedly convened by Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, and attended by LP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi.
Abayomi alleged that during the gathering, Datti Baba-Ahmed reiterated his stance that the Tinubu-led federal government remains “questionably constitutional,” despite a conclusive Supreme Court ruling that legitimized the administration.
He noted that such rhetoric is not only divisive but potentially inciting, adding that the LP was neither consulted nor officially represented in the meeting.

The Labour Party emphasized that Baba-Ahmed’s televised remarks, where he referred to government appointments as “fake and illegal” and described the current administration’s actions as destructive to the nation, are misleading and dangerous.
“The paraphernalia of government they are enjoying, destroying our country, and spending our money is only for a little time,” Baba-Ahmed reportedly said.
Reacting to these remarks, the LP warned that such statements could fuel public unrest and are tantamount to calling for mass resistance against a constitutionally recognized government.
Abayomi said, “We think there should be a limit to whipping up public sentiment against a legitimate government. History has shown us how such behavior sparked unrest during the Arab Spring. Nigeria cannot afford that.”
Labour Party Reaffirms Commitment to National Peace and Unity
