Professor Josiah Ajiboye, registrar and chief executive officer of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, stated Wednesday that over 260 Nigerians have relocated to Canada in the current fiscal year.
Ajiboye further stated that the UN had hinted at the aim of dismissing some teachers in order to focus on mass recruitment of Nigerian teachers.
Prof. Ajiboye, who spoke yesterday at a one-day retreat on the state of education in Nigeria organised by the Education Correspondents Association of Nigeria, ECAN, in Abuja, bemoaned Nigerians’ berating of the Nigerian education system.
Despite the perceived crises in the nation’s education sector, Nigeria, Ajiboye claims, has fared well in terms of educational standards, a trend that has prompted several international nations to hire Nigerians as teachers.

“When you say medical doctors are leaving the country, I want you to know that they are not alone,” Ajiboye remarked.
According to Ajiboye, teachers are also leaving the nation, adding, ”Even just this year, I have signed professional standing letters for over 260 Nigerians who are going to teach in Canada alone.
“Nigeria’s education is currently among the greatest in the world; otherwise, why are Nigerian professionals leaving the country?” You see thousands of Nigerians everywhere you go, and Nigerian graduates are in high demand.”
Professor Ajiboye added, “Looking at the quality of our graduates today, they are people who can compete with people all around the world.” “People will always tell you that the standard is dropping, but who sets the standards?”
