Edwin Clark, an elder statesman and the head of the Pan-Niger Delta Forum, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari not to swallow his words in Abakaliki and Abuja, where he said the decision of the court on Nnamdi Kanu’s release would be final.
Why pleading that Buhari should obey the court order to release, Clark said: ”I recall, and it is widely known, that when the leaders, elders, and traditional rulers of the South East begged President Muhammadu Buhari at a meeting in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, to free Kanu and other detained pro-Biafra agitators, the President replied that Nnamdi Kanu’s fate would be decided by the court.
”Even after they (Igbo leaders) paid him a visit at Aso Rock, the President reiterated that the situation was no longer in his or the security services’ hands and that the court’s decision would be final.”
Edwin Clark posited: “Only by treating every region of Nigeria equally in all respects with the other regions can the country’s unity be established and maintained.
”No group can exercise divine authority over Nigeria, and no group has a disproportionate claim to this nation. We want the Nigerian people to know that we are all one.”
In a statement released on Monday, Clark also criticised Malami, who he said had abandoned a portion of his duties and engaged in “executive rascality,” much to the chagrin of patriotic residents.
Clark said: ”I find the Federal Government’s position to be very unnecessary and overbearing, he declared. As a result, I fervently implore President Muhammadu Buhari to heed the Court of Appeal’s ruling and order Nnamdi Kanu’s immediate release in the sake of national security, particularly in the South East Zone.
”I recall, and it is widely known, that when the leaders, elders, and traditional rulers of the South East begged President Muhammadu Buhari at a meeting in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, to free Kanu and other detained pro-Biafra agitators, the President replied that Nnamdi Kanu’s fate would be decided by the court.”

“Now that the Court of Appeal has decided the case, I am pleading with the President to follow its ruling, free the young guy, and allow for peace. Anything that will improve the peace and stability of the nation at this time, when insecurity is the norm, must be accepted.”

“The Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN, needs to recognise that, in accordance with Section 150 (1) of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria, he serves as the Federation’s Chief Law Officer (as amended),” Clark said.
According to Clark ”He is supposed to maintain his objectivity at all times and in all situations. He is not the President, a member of a group, or even a sector of the country’s Chief Law Officer.
”To the displeasure and dismay of patriotic Nigerians at home and abroad, I have, unhappily, seen that the Attorney General has, without a doubt, abandoned some of his duties and is now engaged in “executive rascality.”
