PDP In Ogun Splits Into 3 as It Suspends Gov. Aspirant

Sunday Solarin, the Peoples Democratic Party, has announced the suspension of Jimi Lawal, the PDP candidate for governor, for allegedly organising and taking part in an “illegal” governorship primary election.

The party, which had split into three groups, was ordered by the expired court to have a new primary within 14 days.

Due to his involvement in anti-party actions, the party has suspended Bola Odunmosun, its finance secretary, Fasiu Ajadi, Kola Akinyemi, and Tope Asiru, its chairman for the Ijebu North-East Local Government Area.

At a news conference held at the party’s secretariat in Abeokuta, the state capital, Sunday Solarin, the party’s secretary, announced their suspension.

Lawal and the others, according to Solarin, were expelled for holding and taking part in a “illegal” governorship primary election that was not approved by the party’s national working committee. This, he claimed, was a violation of the party’s constitution.

Lawal and the others had been placed on administrative leave for one month, according to Solarin, pending the conclusion of a disciplinary commission that would be formed to look into their behaviour.

The state’s primary election for the party that produced Ladi Adebutu has been declared invalid by a Federal High Court with jurisdiction sitting in Abeokuta.

In her ruling, Justice Oguntoyinbo, the presiding court, commanded the party to hold new primaries within the next 14 days.

Additionally, the court prohibited the Independent National Electoral Commission from recognising Adebutu as a contender for governor.

However, the party’s NWC has promised to challenge the ruling.

According to reports, the group of Lawal held a factional governorship primary poll on Monday in the state capital of Abeokuta after the 14-day deadline had passed.

However, the party’s leadership in the state denounced Lawal and the members of his section for their actions, adamantly stating that the PDP would not support any behaviour intended to bring the party into dishonour.

All of these antics will be put to rest, and we have decided to out the main players in the fraudulent primary election, according to Solarin. They will get punishment because it has been determined that they broke the party’s laws.

We were informed that an unlawful congress would take place today and that as of this afternoon, some persons had met someplace to carry out a task that was not entrusted to them by the Constitution or any applicable statute.

We also decided today that Otunba Jimi Lawal would be suspended immediately for actively participating in a congress that was not organised by the party’s state executives, which was deemed to have damaged the reputation of the organisation.

“We must also emphasise the fact that a lack of discipline in the home will undoubtedly result in the failure to raise excellent children and worthy representatives of the family.

“Because PDP is a home that upholds the rule of law, it was created by our forebears, and it is a house that is controlled by all of us, we are not going to open our eyes and permit any dissidence to demolish the house, therefore we must tow the route of discipline by illuminating the way.

Therefore, they are placed on administrative leave for the upcoming month. At that point, a disciplinary committee will be established, and they will be called to appear and defend their actions, as well as the reasons why their suspension won’t be extended or turned into expulsion.

As of the time this article was filed, Lawal’s faction spokesperson, Austin Oniyokor, could not be reached for comment.
