After failing to present Sanwo-Olu’s WAEC certificate in court, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has been served with a subpoena requiring it to turn over the back-end server of its result verification webpage for forensic investigation.
On Sunday, the Lagos State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal ordered WAEC to turn over its information technology infrastructure, including its back-end server for the result verification portal, for forensic examination.
The order is stated in the subpoena that was issued on Sunday at the request of Dr Abdulazeez Adediran, better known as Jandor/Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to support their claims that Governor Sanwo-Olu lied under oath in his 2023 form EC9 by presenting a forged certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in 2019.
Recall that Sanwo-Olu lied under oath in the form EC9 claiming he had never submitted a falsified certificate to INEC previously, which was one of the grounds for JANDOR/case PDP’s to the election tribunal.
When his 2019 Form CF001 was checked, it was discovered that the putative statement of WAEC results that Sanwo-Olu claimed to have submitted in 1981 at Ijebu Ife Community Grammar School had been ruled invalid by the WAEC Result Verification Portal.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) as the fourth respondent attached a printout from the same WAEC portal, which so far has confirmed Sanwo-purported Olu’s WAEC result to be nonexistent.
“While responding to JANDOR/PDP petition, Governor Sanwo-Olu didn’t attach the purported WAEC certificate to counter JANDOR/PDP claims, but the APC did so,” the statement continued.
In their response to Sanwo-and Olu’s the APC’s response, JANDOR/PDP questioned the legitimacy of the unexpected appearance and upload of Sanwo-WAEC Olu’s results on the verification portal and served a subpoena on WAEC to appear and produce the aforementioned 1981 WAEC certificate while testifying under oath in court.
“I am unable to tender the duplicate copy of the May/June 1981 G.C.E. ‘O’ Level certificate of one SANWO-OLU BABAJIDE OLUSOLA,” the WAEC representative who was called to testify in court last week in the oath of witnesses deposed to, and sighted, is quoted as saying in the statement.
“The Council does not produce counterpart copies of candidates’ certificates nor retain duplicate copies of candidates’ certificates.”
“However, a check on the WAEC website revealed that in the event of loss of the WAEC certificate, the council issues an attestation in the form of a CTC, but none of such was issued by WAEC to ascertain the claim of Babajide Sanwoolu, hence the order of the court that WAEC should submit it back end-server and other information technology infrastructure for forensic analysis.
”This exercise will expose the date and time the sudden appearance of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s purported 1981 WAEC result was uploaded, as the same result wasn’t there as of APRIL 7th, 2023 when JANDOR/PDP filed their petition at the tribunal,” the statement read.
