The Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has pledged full compensation for the families of the 16 hunters allegedly killed by a vigilante group in Uromi, Edo State, while they were on their way to Kano.
The governor made this commitment on Monday when he, alongside his Kano State counterpart, Governor Abba Yusuf, visited the bereaved families in Torankawa, Kano State, to express their condolences and assure them of justice.
Edo State Government Promises Compensation for Victims
Governor Okpebholo emphasized his administration’s commitment to ensuring that all affected families receive financial compensation and necessary support. He reassured the victims’ families that the Edo State government is working diligently to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“We are making arrangements to provide compensation to all the families affected by this tragic incident. The government will not rest until justice is served,” Okpebholo stated.
The governor commended the people of Kano State for remaining calm despite the devastating loss.

“I also commend the good people of Kano State and the entire North for not taking the law into their own hands or carrying out reprisal attacks,” he added.
Justice for Slain Hunters: Edo State Confirms Arrests
Governor Okpebholo confirmed that security operatives had already apprehended 14 suspects in connection with the killings. He assured the victims’ families that his administration is committed to ensuring that the culprits are prosecuted.
“About 14 suspects have been arrested already, and we will pursue this case to its logical conclusion. The Edo State government will ensure that no stone is left unturned in delivering justice to these innocent victims,” he affirmed.
Governor Abba Yusuf Pledges Support for Victims’ Families
In his remarks, Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State extended his condolences and assured the bereaved families that both state governments are collaborating to ensure swift justice. He noted that the Edo and Kano State governments are closely monitoring the case to prevent any miscarriage of justice.
“We are working hand in hand with my counterpart, Governor Okpebholo, to ensure that all those arrested are prosecuted. We will also ensure full compensation for all the affected victims,” Yusuf stated.
He further announced that financial assistance and food items had been provided to the families of the slain hunters to support them in this difficult period.
