Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, declared on Tuesday that the commission will build on the success of the governorship elections held in the states of Osun and Ekiti in the distribution of election materials.
He spoke on Tuesday in Lagos at an expert review meeting on election logistics for the general election of 2023 that was sponsored by ActionAid Nigeria and the Ford Foundation.
He also gave the Nigerian people his word that the commission would enhance its practices and procedures in order to make the upcoming elections more enjoyable for them.
“The Commission organised a similar meeting for important stakeholders prior to the 2019 general elections,” he stated. Reviewing the ongoing difficulties with electoral logistics and discussing solutions were the meeting’s main goals.
“The commission is committed to improving the distribution of election materials by building on the accomplishments seen in the most recent elections in the states of Ekiti and Osun.
”In this regard, we appreciate Action Aid Nigeria’s cooperation in bringing these parties together to discuss a crucial matter.
”The commission is committed to constantly enhancing the procedures and processes to ensure that Nigerians have a positive election-day experience. We require the cooperation and assistance of all parties to advance this goal.
“By your presence at this meeting, you have demonstrated your willingness to partner with the commission, and we are encouraged by such a demonstration of support and commitment to the success of the electoral process as we continue to make steady progress in the implementation of our plans.”
Usman Baba, the Inspector General of Police, gave the assurance that the police force would ensure security for all people and assets engaged in the full election process in 2023.

“The interaction assists in analysing the emerging political programmes as given out by INEC and outlines a clear pathway to recommence the electoral process in the lead-up to the 2023 general elections,” the IG, who was represented by Commissioner of Police Federal Operations Edem Effiong, stated. We are all aware that INEC has since confirmed the start of political party election campaigns.
”It is important to remember that the Nigeria Police Force is required by law to protect elections, support political campaigns, and tolerate security breaches.
”The Electoral Act of 2022 advises political actors to participate in the games, and the Nigeria Police Force protects the safety and security of all people and property throughout the entire electoral process.
The need for the discussion, according to Chichi Aniagolu, Regional Director, West Africa Ford Foundation, is because logistics have been a significant problem during the country’s election campaign.
She stated, “There is no reason why we cannot get people to vote once every four years if producing companies can transport their goods to the nooks and crannies of the country every single day. the cause of our want to assist.”
