Lagos State University of Science and Technology Gets Substantive V-C

The appointment of Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya as the permanent and founding vice chancellor of the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Ikorodu, has received the approval of Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos State.

This information was provided in a statement released on Wednesday by the Office of the Special Adviser on Education’s Public Affairs Unit. The statement added that Odusanya’s appointment as the university’s substantive vice chancellor began on September 29, 2022.

At the start of the new university, Sanwo-Olu gave his approval for the appointment of Dr. Nurudeen Olaleye, who was at the time the substantive Rector of the former Lagos State Polytechnic in Ikorodu, as interim vice chancellor while the substantive vice chancellor was being chosen and appointed.

According to the statement, it is now essential to choose a substantive Vice-Chancellor for LASUSTECH in order to safeguard the institution’s stability and make sure that there is no leadership gap at the university.

“On February 8, 1965, Odusanya was born. He is a Fellow of the Medical College in Public Health and Community Medicine as well as a Professor of Public and Community Health.

He graduated from the University of Lagos with a Master of Public Health. Odusanya previously held the position of Professor of Community and Primary Health in the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, College of Medicine, Lagos State University’s Department of Community Health and Primary Health Care.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, praised Olaleye, the previous acting vice chancellor of LASUSTECH, for using his knowledge and strong leadership abilities to get the new institution off to a solid start. He will be recognised in the future as one of the university’s founding Management Heads by posterity. His actions will make it possible for the next administration to get off to a strong start,” the statement said.

It further stated that Olaleye had received instructions from the State Government to resume serving as LASPOTECH’s substantive Rector for the remaining three years and two months of his term.
