Falana: ASUU Will Fight The Court’s Decision To Halt The Strike

Femi Falana, the head of legal counsel for the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced that it will appeal the court’s ruling ordering it to call off its nationwide strike.

Since February 14, ASUU has been on strike in protest of inadequate financing for universities, a review of professors’ pay and benefits, and a change in the method of payment.

Meetings between ASUU and the Federal Government have frequently come to an impasse.

While Falana insists that ASUU demands should be met, in order to contest the strike, the Federal Government went before the national industrial court. You can read more such stories at Credible News

ASUU Strike: Pro-Chancellors, Vice-Chancellors, Union Meet

The Honorable Judge Polycarp Hamman issued a decision on Wednesday, granting the Federal Government’s request for an interlocutory injunction to stop ASUU, which Falana represents, from extending the strike.

While the substantive claim was being heard and decided, the judge ordered union members to return to work, but Falana objected, vowing to appeal the orders.

He claimed that public university students who cannot afford to attend private postsecondary schools suffer as a result of the strike.
