ICPC Inaugurates Anti-Corruption Unit at Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) to Promote Transparency

In a significant initiative to enhance institutional integrity and ethical governance, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has officially inaugurated the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) at Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech). The ceremony, which included the administration of the oath of allegiance to the ACTU members, took place in the Academic Board Room, with key stakeholders in attendance, signaling Yabatech’s renewed commitment to combat corruption and promote transparency.
During the inauguration, Dr. Engr. Ibraheem Abdul, the Rector of Yabatech, urged the newly appointed ACTU members to embody a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and unethical practices, particularly financial misconduct. He emphasized that their role is not merely ceremonial but a crucial duty to uphold the institution’s integrity. “Your actions must reflect the trust placed in you. Reject any malpractice that could compromise your office’s integrity and the college,” Dr. Abdul stated.
Furthermore, Dr. Abdul encouraged the ACTU members to serve as exemplary figures in the transparency campaign, advocating the principles they are charged to uphold.
Mr. Chukwurah Alexander, the Resident Commissioner in Lagos State and representative of ICPC Chairman Mr. Musa Aliyu, praised Yabatech for its dedication to ethical standards and accountability. He highlighted that ACTUs, established across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), play a pivotal role in the fight against corruption in public service.
“With this inauguration, we expect the ACTU team to conduct regular sensitization campaigns, enforce ethical standards among staff, and ensure compliance within the institution,” Chukwurah remarked. He also noted that ACTU would collaborate closely with the College Management as partners rather than adversaries.
During the ceremony, Chukwurah presented the official operational manual for ACTU to the Rector, detailing the Unit’s roles and responsibilities. Additionally, two insightful presentations were made on ‘The Role and Responsibilities of ACTU’ and ‘Preliminary Investigations for ACTUs’ by Principal Superintendent Mrs. Rabiat Umar and Assistant Commissioner Mrs. Bariboloka Florence.
In his inaugural address, the chairman of Yabatech ACTU, Engr. Tairu Onawale, reaffirmed the team’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and integrity. He assured both the college and ICPC of the Unit’s dedication to fulfilling its mandate with professionalism and diligence.
This inauguration marks a crucial step forward in Yabatech’s ongoing efforts to foster an environment of integrity and accountability, reinforcing the importance of transparency in educational institutions.
