The Kano State Police Command has detained a 62-year-old man named Bamuwa Umaru for allegedly attempting to bribe a policeman in order to secure the release of a suspected kidnapper named Yusuf Ibrahim.
Officer in Charge of Anti-Kidnapping Squad, State Criminal Investigation Department, Kano State Command, SP Aliyu Mohammed was offered one-million-naira bribe to secure the release of one Yusuf Ibrahim, 27 years old which he turned down.
Umaru was detained after he offered a policeman a one million naira bribe in exchange for the officer releasing the suspect, according to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna, on Tuesday.
According to Haruna, the suspect admitted to participating in several kidnappings in villages in the states of Katsina and Zamfara after preliminary inquiries.
He further admitted that his syndicate had killed up to 10 of their victims, out of which he personally killed two.
The suspect kidnapper, Yusuf Ibrahim, 27, of Danjibga Village, Tsafe LGA, Zamfara State, was detained at Rijiyar Zaki Motor Park Kano on December 16, 2022, at around 2:00 p.m. Alhaji Bamuwa Umaru, 62, of Shika Town, Sabon Gari LGA, Kaduna State, approached SP Aliyu Mohammed, the officer in charge of the anti-kidn.

“Ibrahim was apprehended by a team of Operation Restore Peace under the leadership of CSP Usman Abdullahi, the Divisional Police Officer, Rijiyar Zaki Division Kano after he was recognized by a driver they had abducted along the Funtua-Gusau Road and demanded N500,000 as ransom before releasing him.
“After a preliminary inquiry, the suspect admitted to the crime and also admitted to taking part in a string of kidnappings at the villages of Sheme, Yankara, Faskari, and Kucheri in the states of Katsina and Zamfara, respectively.
”He also admitted that two of the victims were slain by him alone out of the approximately 10 victims that the syndicate’s members killed, according to the police spokeswoman.
When the inquiry was over, he stressed, the suspects would be charged in court.
According to Haruna, the Command’s Community Policing Stakeholders, other security agencies, the media, vigilante groups, and the good people of Kano have CP Mamman Dauda’s gratitude for their prayers, support, encouragement, and collaboration.
