Abducted Plateau DPO Released, Says Police

The state command verified on Sunday the release of the Divisional Police Officer who had been abducted by gunmen in Plateau State’s Pankshin Local Government Area less than four days prior.

Gunmen in Pankshin shot the kidnapped police officer, named as Nwapi Augustus, in his hotel room before escorting him to an unidentified location.

Following the kidnapping of SP Nwapi Augustus on January 11, 2023, at around 7:30 p.m. by unknown gunmen at an unknown location in Pankshin LGA, the Plateau State Police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies and hunters in the area, embarked on a rescue mission and ultimately unchained and freed the officer from his captors.

The police officer was brought to the hospital for a checkup and treatment, and he will soon be reunited with his family.

“In light of the despicable occurrence, the command will stop at nothing to combat kidnapping in the state,” says CP Bartholomew Onyeka in a statement to the public. “The offenders will be fished out and arrested to face justice.”

The CP also thanked the general public for its support since the incident occurred and urged them to provide the state’s citizens with timely information and assistance so that the police can respond to criminal incidents.
