How Terrorists Burnt Catholic Priest To Death In Minna

Reverend Father Isaac Achi, a Catholic priest, was killed by fire in his home in Kafin Koro, Paikoro Local Government Area, Niger State.

In charge of St. Peter’s and Paul Catholic Church in Kafin Koro and the Kafin Koro Deanery of the Minna Diocese of Niger State, the late Rev. Father Achi served as both until his death.

A source close to Kafin Koro claims that at about 1:00 am, the gunmen surrounded his house after storming the slain Reverend Father’s hilltop home, located about one kilometre from the main town.

The gunmen allegedly poured Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as gasoline, all over the house before lighting it on fire after nearly an hour of failed attempts to force their way inside.

Reverend Father Collins, his aide, who was injured in his leg while attempting to flee the fire, is presently receiving treatment at an unnamed medical facility in Minna, the state capital.

According to our source, the deceased made a distress call to a family member as the gunmen tried to enter the residence. The family member then called the Divisional Police Office in charge of Kafin Koro Division, but the gunmen were alleged to have overwhelmed the police.

Further information revealed that the assailants lit the structure on fire, watched as it burned to the ground with the late Reverend Father inside, and then fled without being confronted.

The state Police Command has not yet released a comment regarding the incident, however Mr. Emmanuel Umar, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Humanitarian Affairs, confirmed the killing of the Catholic priest while also announcing that security personnel had been dispatched to the scene.

As may be remembered, the bombing of Saint Theresa Catholic Church, Madella in the Suleja local government region of the state occurred in December 2011, and the late Reverend Father Isaac Achi, a native of Kafin Koro, managed to survive.

When the gunmen broke into the late Reverend Father’s home two years later in 2013, he narrowly survived another kidnapping attempt.
