Nigerian Seafarers Denied Entry Nigeria Embassy: NIMASA To Visit Philippines
The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASSA, has announced that it will send a fact-finding team to the Philippines in response to a recent protest by some of its cadets participating in the National Seafarers Development Programme.
The development involving NIMASA’s NSDP 2013 cadets, as seen in a recent video online, was regarded as sad by NIMASA, who added that the agency has been following the situation.
In the viral video, a number of Nigerian cadets from the NSDP were shown demonstrating at the Nigerian Embassy in Manila, Philippines, over the embassy’s apparent failure to acknowledge and listen to their complaints about NIMASA.
The cadets said in the film that they had been abandoned by NIMASA, despite the fact that they had been in the nation for roughly ten years.

They also mocked the embassy for denying them entry and failing to provide them with an audience.
NIMASA also stated that it has got Ministerial approval for an assessment visit in October to determine the concerns firsthand in order to thoroughly and totally remedy them.
“Our Executive Director, Maritime Labour and Cabotage Services, Victor Ochei, will lead the fact-finding journey to the Philippines to connect with the school and the cadets,” according to the statement. Given responsible management, we must deal with this from a position of knowledge, as the issue predates this administration.”
