NUPENG Throws Support Behind NLC and TUC in Nationwide Indefinite Strike
The Nigerian Labour Congress called for a statewide strike on Thursday, and the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers said that it was supporting the action.
The NLC has set October 3 as the start date for the start of its statewide strike, citing the Federal Government’s alleged unwillingness to address the hardship brought on by the termination of the fuel subsidy for Nigerians.
The union’s president, Comrade Williams Akporeha, and general secretary, Comrade Afolabi Olawale, released a statement on Thursday in which they said that the government had shown extreme insensitivity and disregard for the Nigerian people.
The union stated that it was strange for the government to be so unconcerned with the suffering of Nigerians and that it was aware of the potential effects of a 24-hour economic closure on the country.
