The administration of Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, Osun State, has revised the tuition that the institution’s students will henceforth be required to pay.
Abiodun Olarewaju, the university’s public relations officer, said in a statement that “freshers” in the colleges of arts, law, and humanities would pay N151,200 while returning students would pay N89,200.
He stated that new students to the faculties of technology and science will pay N163,200 while returning students to the same faculties will pay N101,200.
Olarewaju said: “In addition, the new students being admitted into the Faculties in the College of Health Sciences, and the Faculty of Pharmacy are to pay ₦190,200 (new students) and ₦128, 200 (returning students), respectively.
“The decision was taken by the Senate of the University at its emergency meeting on Tuesday, September 12, 2023.
“The management, therefore, wishes the students resounding success in their academic programmes. “The above adjustable fees are just for an academic session.”
Similarly, the University of Lagos announced on July 21 an adjustment in the obligatory fees for both returning and new students of the institution. It said the upward review of the fees is with effect from Sept. 1.
According to UNILAG, “After careful deliberations with its stakeholders, comprising students, parents/guardians, staff unions, and alumni, among others, the University of Lagos management has reviewed the obligatory fees (mandatory charges for an academic session/year) of new and returning undergraduate students of the institution.
“The adjustment in these fees, which will take effect from the first semester of the 2023–2024 academic session, is in view of the prevailing economic realities and the need for the university to be able to meet its obligations to its students, staff, and municipal service providers, among others.

“It is also pertinent to note that the university has not increased its obligatory fees in recent years.
“Management therefore seeks the kind understanding and support of students and other stakeholders with assurance of its commitment towards ensuring that students get the best learning experience,” it stated.
A breakdown of the fees shows that the mandatory charges for one academic session for new undergraduate students include N126, 325, for courses without laboratories or studios.
The statement also indicated N176,325 as mandatory charges for one academic session for courses with laboratories and studios.
A further breakdown of the approved mandatory charges for one academic year or session for returning students showed that they would pay N100,750 for courses without laboratories and studios.
The approved mandatory charges for courses with laboratories and studios, according to the statement, are N140,250.
The statement further added that approved charges for all Medical students at the institution were N190,250.
It noted that utility charges of N20,000 were to be paid by all undergraduate students, while a total of N30,000 was to be paid by all final year students.
According to the statement, charges for field trips, where such is a mandatory requirement of the course of study, will be determined as the need arises.
