The Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has requested that the Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, recant his statement on ‘divisive’ politics made in Kaduna on Saturday and apologise to the Igbo people and the entire Southern region.
The leading Igbo organisation stated that Atiku’s remark about northerners voting just for candidates from the northern area over candidates from other tribes is sensitive and inflammatory.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo group’s spokesperson, Alex Ogbonna, was disappointed with the address, adding, “It contradicts Atiku’s claims of being a cosmopolitan and detribalised Nigerian.”
“That was a pretty controversial remark from a former Nigerian vice president.” His remark may reveal his attitude toward the country.
“It’s a Freudian error.” Something that unexpectedly comes out of someone’s mouth and displays the person’s profound feelings regarding something, “the Ohanaeze Ndigbo said.
Ohanaeze words: “The Igbo and the South voted for Abubakar Tafawa Balewa on record.” They cast their ballots for Shehu Shagari, Umaru Yar ‘Adua, and Muhammadu Buhari. So, why isn’t there reciprocity possible?
“He should have continued his campaigns without escalating ethnic tensions.”

“That is a pitiful remark. It’s a poor choice of words. It’s not going to end well for the former vice president. He should find a way to retract that remark. ”
Ohanaeze Ndigbo continued, “Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide is disappointed by Atiku’s statement,” he added. This is because Ndigbo voted for Shagari, Yar’Adua, Buhari, and even all of the North’s military rulers.
“As a result, Ohanaeze Ndigbo is asking on the former vice president to apologise to Nigerians, particularly southerners, for that regrettable comment.” It’s a contentious issue.”
