The Ondo State Deputy Governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has petitioned the Ondo State High Court to halt the Ondo State House of Assembly’s impeachment proceedings against him while the court hears and rules on the lawsuit he has filed.
The Deputy Governor is requesting a declaration that the House of Assembly is ineligible to proceed with his impeachment in violation of his constitutional and fundamental rights to a fair trial and that the removal of his media assistants and subjecting him to the Ministry of Information headed by a commissioner constitutes a violation of his rights and privileges as a Deputy Governor in Suit No. AK/348/2023, which was filed at the High Court in Akure on Monday, September 25, 2023.
He declared that his office, tenure, status, rights, and privileges are protected, guaranteed, and secured by the Constitution.
He stated that the House of Assembly has the authority to determine his civil rights and obligations as the deputy governor of Ondo State.

Aiyedatiwa requested an injunction to prevent the House of Assembly from starting, continuing, or moving on with the process of removing him from office as the Deputy Governor of Ondo State.
He also asks for a court order to prevent the Ondo State Chief Judge from agreeing to or acting on any request by the state’s House of Assembly to form a panel to look into any allegations of egregious misconduct against the Deputy Governor.
The Ondo State Government, the Governor of Ondo State, the Ondo State House of Assembly, the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, the Clerk of the Ondo State House of Assembly, and other parties are named as defendants in the lawsuit brought by human rights attorney and legal legend Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, SAN.
