Soldier Aiding Boko Haram With Weaponry Arrested
The Nigerian Army has arrested member of its personnel for allegedly stealing and supplying ammunition to terrorists.
The soldier,identified as Iorliam Emmanuel,from Benue State is said to be working under the 156 Task Force Battalion (Operation Hadin Kai) in Mainok town,Borno State.
Mainok, 60km from the capital Maiduguri, is the headquarters of Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State.
In a trending video surfaced on social media shows colleagues exposing the bullets the suspect stuffed inside and underneath his uniform.
Emmanuel was caught with ammunition, concealed in a bag and clothing tied around his waist.
“You see your life? You, you will go and give Boko Haram these things so that they will come and attack us in this camp. Don’t worry. God pass you,”one of the soldiers was heard saying in the clip.
“All these ones don tey, they don rust,” a soldier said in reference to bullets that appeared to have been in the suspect’s possession for a while.
Recall that, Operatives of Zamfara Police Command arrested suspected informants and arms suppliers who work for bandits in the state.
“The nefarious activities of this syndicate group were to give information to bandits to make it easier for them to attack communities and kidnap people for ransom,” Mohammed Shehu, the state police spokesman said while parading the arrested suspect
According to Sheu, the command also arrested an ex-soldier identified as Saidu Lawal for supplying arms to bandits on August 27.
Ibrahim Ali,General Officer Commanding 3 Division in Rukuba, Jos North LGA, Plateau, had earlier issued a note of warning to any army involved in illegal arms trade.
“Let me warn that the Nigerian Army will deal heavily with any personnel that is involved in any illegal arms and ammunition deal,” he had said.
Emmanuel is expected to face court martial for the offence committed
