Soldier Again Murders Soldier, Injures Pilot

A soldier has been killed by fellow soldiers on Thursday when he killed a comrade of a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that works to provide humanitarian aid in the area at a military facility in Nigeria’s northeast.

Additionally, it was claimed that the soldier later hurt a United Nations helicopter co-pilot.

This is in accordance with a statement made on Thursday and uploaded on the Facebook page of the Nigerian Army by Samson Zhakom, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations.

The Army reported that the soldier was instantly murdered by other soldiers on the ground even though the reason for his actions was not yet revealed.

“Theatre Command, Operation Hadin Kai, regrets to inform the public of a terrible incident at one of our military bases today,” the statement said.

“A soldier killed a member of one of the NGOs providing aid in the North-East by shooting and killing the person.

The co-pilot of one of the UN helicopters was hurt by the same soldier who also killed another soldier.

The rogue individuals were swiftly neutralised by own troops on the ground.”

“While the bodies of the deceased were transported to the 7 Division Hospital, the injured co-pilot was stabilised.

“A thorough investigation into the occurrence has started, and following corrective measures have been taken in response to the deeply regrettable incident. We’ll provide you more specifics later.

Similarly, on Tuesday this week, the centre’s director of finance, Brigadier General Audu James, was killed by a drunk soldier Corporal Abayomi Edun in Lagos.

General James passed away after being struck by a car while on his way to his barracks house by Edun on Tuesday night, about 10:30 p.m.
