The military and other security forces have earned the gratitude and satisfaction of the entire country, including President Muhammadu Buhari, for the safe release of the final 23 railway passengers held hostage by Boko Haram terrorists.
President Buhari expressed gratitude to the military and all other security and intelligence agencies for the successful conduct of the operation that resulted in the release of the hostages in response to the news that the hostages had been released safely in accordance with his earlier instructions. He added that these agencies had demonstrated exceptional capabilities over this time that the entire world would not fail to take notice of.
The President was cited as adding, “This country’s Armed Forces are as good as any,” in a statement by Mallam Garba Shehu, his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity. They can complete any assignment if given the necessary assistance and inspiration, as we have been. I congratulate them on their outstanding result.
President Buhari thanked the families of the victims for receiving their loved ones back alive while expressing pleasure with the effective deployment of both kinetic and non-kinetic processes that ultimately led to the safe release of the remaining captives.
He gave the order that the nation’s relief at the resolution of this tragic tragedy must always be maintained throughout the federation.
Assuring that the efforts would continue, the President also praised his administration for addressing the situation and de-escalating the recent uptick in terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping.
