Tinubu Supporters Slam Finance Minister Wale Edun Over ‘Zero Percent’ 2025 Budget Performance

The South West Democratic Agenda for Tinubu 2027, a key political support group that mobilized votes for President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 election, has demanded the resignation of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, citing what it described as an unprecedented “zero percent capital budget performance” in 2025.
In a strongly worded statement signed by its president, Otunba Adedayo Adewole, the group accused Edun of failing both the president and the Nigerian people, warning that his continued stay in office could deepen the country’s economic crisis.
‘Capital Projects at Zero, Nigerians Abandoned’
According to the group, despite massive domestic and foreign borrowing, the federal government has not implemented a single capital project from the 2025 Appropriation Act, even as the year enters its ninth month.
“Capital projects mean roads, hospitals, schools, power, and water supply—the things that improve daily life. A zero percent performance is zero progress. It means Nigerians are stranded while their government watches,” Adewole said.
The group stressed that the Appropriation Act is not just a fiscal document but the heartbeat of governance, accusing Edun of betraying Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Tinubu’s Base Expresses Betrayal
While reaffirming loyalty to President Tinubu, the South West Democratic Agenda warned that Edun’s failures are eroding public trust in the administration.
“This is not renewed hope—it is renewed hardship. President Tinubu must remember that Nigerians voted for him, not for Wale Edun. The people’s mandate cannot be wasted on failure,” Adewole added.
The group called on the National Assembly to hold Edun accountable, insisting that lawmakers would be complicit if they allowed the situation to continue without consequences.
Call for Urgent Change in Economic Team
With inflation, debt servicing, and rising poverty already hitting Nigerians hard, the pressure group urged Tinubu to urgently reorganize his economic team.
“If Edun stays, the suffering will remain. If he goes, a new dawn can begin. For the sake of Nigerians, the legacy of this administration, and the 2027 elections, Edun must resign and go home,” the statement concluded.
