Wike Says: I’m Working for Tinubu, Not Specifically for APC
Contrary to insinuations from some quarters that Nyesom Wike is now member of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Wednesday, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, made it clear that he represents President Bola Tinubu and not the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He said: “I’m not employed by APC.”. When Wike spoke on Channels TV Politics Today, he remarked, “I am working for Tinubu who have trust in me to help him give the revitalised hope.”
I owe absolutely no one an apology, he continued. I supported Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s campaign for president of Nigeria while I was a member of the PDP.
Recall that Wike’s name appeared on the APC’s campaign council for the November 11 governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi states.
Following the controversial documents featuring well-known names of chairmen, co-chairmen, and members of the campaign councils for the governorship elections that went viral in the media and internet platforms, the party denied publishing them on Tuesday night.
The APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, released a statement in Abuja that featured a reply.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) released the following statement: “National Campaign Council Lists for November 11, 2023, Governorship Elections in Bayelsa, Kogi and Imo States are now being circulated in sections of the media.

The APC reply stated, “The lists are not official papers of the Party and should be disregarded.”
The inclusion of Wike, which was made public in documents signed by the party’s national organising secretary, Suleiman Arugungu, and posted on the social media platform of the ruling party on Tuesday evening, sparked a contentious debate, especially in the camp of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.
The minister stressed, though, in a speech on Wednesday night that he is still a part of the main opposition party.
Yet, he asserted that he owes no one an explanation for his backing of Tinubu in the February 25 presidential election.
When asked if he was concerned that his party would punish him, the former governor of Rivers State said, “Who is the party? They, who?
I haven’t seen the person who will suspend me, with all due respect. Nobody will take action. Who will punish me? It should be my responsibility to demand that those who broke the party’s rules be punished. Who has the guts to claim I’ll be suspended? Who is the subject?
