The All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, has stated that Peter Obi’s ill-conceived presidential aspiration is doomed, adding that it will not support him to become Nigerian President in the 2023 general election.
Following a secret meeting between Anambra State Governor Professor Chukwuma Soludo and the party members, there were widespread rumours that Soludo had instructed the party faithful to work against Peter Obi, stating that the governor aspired to the presidency after Atiku Abubakar.
But, through his Press Secretary, Mr Christian Aburime, Soludo promptly rejected the popular allegation, alleging that Obi was never a topic of discussion during the normal gathering, and that only APGA-related topics were discussed.
However, speaking to media in Awka on Thursday, Mr Chinedu Obigwe, National Coordinator of the APGA Media Warriors Forum, reiterated that the party will work against Obi in favour of APGA candidates.
Obigwe went on to say that it is in the best interests of the supporters to work against Obi in favour of APGA candidates.
He stated that the APGA has remained committed to supporting all of its candidates in the elections.
He claimed that anyone expecting the party to support the former Anambra State governor in the 2023 election is living in “self-deception and fool’s paradise.”
Working against Obi is the correct thing to do in the best interests of the party, he believes.
“I despise being sentimental on vital topics and prefer to speak the honest truth without regard for whose ox is gored,” he remarked.
“Our self-proclaimed Saint Peter Obi as Labour Party presidential candidate has nothing in do with APGA as a party or party supporters, because he is now a political foe.”
“Labour Party members will campaign against APGA candidates in the upcoming general election, and APGA supporters will campaign against Peter Obi and other Labour Party candidates.”
“Anyone expecting APGA members to vote for Peter Obi in the 2023 election is delusional and living in a fool’s paradise.”
