CBN Governor Emefiele Gives Real Reason He Can’t Honour House of Reps Invite

Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Godwin Emefiele has eventually given the real reason he declined the invitations from the House of Representatives.

Emefiele, revealed that he has been sick and being attended to medically outside the country hence he couldn’t honour the several invites by the House of Representatives.

This was made public after he declined a request from House of Representatives members to speak out against the proposed cash withdrawal limit regulation, which is set to take effect on January 9, 2023.

This development was detailed in a letter to the House of Representatives that was sent by Edward Adamu, the CBN’s Deputy Governor for Corporate Services.

However, he chose not to show up for the hearing.

Additionally, he was scheduled to appear on Tuesday, but he did not.

According to this newspaper, Aisha Ahmad, the CBN’s Deputy Governor for Financial System Stability, would speak on behalf of Emefiele. Emefiele will be replaced by Ahmad on Thursday.

During Wednesday’s plenary, Speaker of the House Gbajabiamila delivered Amadu’s letter to the audience, and the lawmakers decided to accept Emefiele’s representation.
