Imo LGA boss kidnapped as gunmen burn home

Chris Ohizu, the only administrator of Imo State’s Ideato North Local Government Area, and two other people were abducted by gunmen in the early hours of Friday.

This came after his attackers destroyed his rural home in the Imoko neighbourhood of Arondizuogu.

According to a source who spoke to our correspondent, the council leader was shot before his assailants took him and two other victims away.

The sole administrator of Ideato North was taken hostage last night together with two other people after setting fire to his home in the Imoko hamlet of Arondizuogu, according to the source. Before they removed him, they shot him in the leg. This man recently returned from the hospital. I am currently devastated.

Another insider who corroborated the development bemoaned the rising unrest in the neighbourhood.

“As I heard, Ideato North SOLAD’s house was set on fire, and he was kidnapped with a bullet wound to his leg,” he stated.

“I have been making this report since last year, and up to now there has been zero police presence in Arondizuogu and zero arrests. God is now holding us at his mercy.

This happened less than a week after an attack on the country home of Ugochinyere Imo, the spokesperson for the Coalition of United Political Parties, took place in the Ideato North LGA’s Akokwa hamlet. Three people were murdered in the attack, and approximately 33 vehicles were destroyed.

Additionally, a man who was going to get married and his brother were both killed last week at Arondizuogu in the Ideato North LGA.

Henry Okoye, a spokesman for the state’s police, promised to check and come back to our correspondent when reached, but as of the time this story was filed, he still had not done so.
