Lagos Socialite Arrested in Connection to Major Drug Cartel
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested Aishat Elediye, alias “Iya Ruka,” on New Year’s Day at her Okota mansion in Lagos. Her apprehension followed the interception of a truck carrying 1,540 kilograms of imported cannabis, reportedly linked to her drug operations.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi revealed that Elediye, a prominent socialite, has allegedly run a drug cartel from Mushin for years while maintaining a façade as a fabric and shoe importer.
Nollywood Filmmaker Emeka Mbadiwe Arrested in Lekki
In a separate operation, the NDLEA arrested US-trained filmmaker and motivational speaker Emeka Mbadiwe at a Lekki hotel. He was implicated in a shipment of cannabis concealed in wooden boxes that arrived from the US. His associate, Uzoekwe Ugochukwu James, was also apprehended.
Drug-Laced Cupcake Producers Caught in Ilorin
In Ilorin, NDLEA operatives arrested two young individuals, including a University of Ilorin student, for producing and selling drug-laced cupcakes. A raid on their apartment uncovered 42 pieces of the drug-infused treats intended for local distribution.
Ex-Convict Rearrested for Passport Racketeering
Sodade Eniola, previously convicted for drug trafficking, was rearrested for smuggling passports concealed in shoe soles and food items. Eniola had paid a fine to avoid serving a full prison term in 2024.
Major Drug Seizures in Port Harcourt and Kano
Joint NDLEA-Customs operations in Port Harcourt intercepted 316,800 bottles of codeine-based syrup. In Kano, raids yielded over 149,090 pills of tramadol and exol-5.
