Sanwo-Olu Suspends Transport Union Across Lagos Indefinitely
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the indefinite suspension of the transport union throughout the state as a result of altercations involving members of the RTEAN’s Lagos chapter.
A 35-member caretaker committee, led by Oba Sulaiman Raji, the Oniba of the Iba Kingdom, has also been created by the Lagos state government to oversee operations of the transport union in all state parks.
As far as we can tell, the Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, approved the suspension because their disagreements were alleged to have run counter to the administration’s guiding principles of the T.H.E.M.E.S Development Agenda for the state.
The suspension occurred just 24 hours after transport union members clashed in the state’s Lagos Island and Iyana Iba axis, disrupting both business and personal life there.
In response to isolated pockets of violence that were reported in Ojo and Lagos Island yesterday, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, said that the suspension is now necessary and that a 35-man Caretaker Committee has been established to take over the Union’s operations.
Giwa emphasised that men from the Lagos State Police Command will be deployed throughout the State to enforce the suspension and ensure the safety of lives and property. Giwa reiterated that the suspension is necessary to stop further acts of violence in the State.
Through a statement released on Thursday, He revealed that Lagos State had met with some representatives of the RTEAN yesterday following a protest by some members of the Union demanding the removal of their national president.
Lagos governor’s aide stressed that the government had assured RTEAN members of a total investigation of the allegations leveled against the National President with a promise to resolve all lingering issues.
On the committee, Heading the Caretaker Committee is Sulaiman Adeshina Raji with Bamgbose Oluseyi as Deputy Chairman. Other members of the Committee include; Sunday Aransiola, Sulaiman Onabanjo, Azeez Abdulrahman, Isiaka Seriki, Victor Ifemenam, Kareem Babatunde, Amusan Abdulrahman, Teslim Adeshina, Sulaiman Surajudeen, and Fatai Rauf.
