Morocco Dedicates Victory to Arab People And Muslim, Not Africa – Moroccan FA

Morocco has dedicated its victory over Spain at the ongoing 2022 World Cup in Qatar to all Arabs and Muslims all over the world and not to the Africa continent.

This came following the celebrations at Mzuzu University, where the Moroccan FA made it clear that their victory had nothing to do with Africa.

Morocco national team coach Sofiane Boufal told international media following their surprising victory over Spain that their success was for the Arab world.

“Thanks to all Moroccans all over the world for their support, to all Arab people, and to all Muslim people,” he has been quoted as saying.

The words came after most of Africa celebrated with the country after it shocked Spain with a penalty shootout victory.

Moroccans have been hailed as an African victory on social media. Following the departure of Senegal, Cameroon, and Ghana, people in several African countries have naturally adopted Morocco.

The words have generated concerns about Morocco’s own identity, in which it has identified with people outside of Africa. Morocco applied to join the European Union in 1987, but it was denied because it could not be considered European.

Morocco eliminated the Flames in the round of 16 at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations.
