Navy Apprehends Two People Traffickers, Saves 18 Victims
Officers from the Nigerian Navy rescued 18 trafficking people at Rijiyar Lemu in Kano State’s Ungogo Local Government Area.
In addition, two suspected human traffickers were apprehended by the Nigerian Navy Finance and Logistics College’s internal security squad on Saturday.
The Navy stated in a statement on its official Facebook page on Monday night that the rescue and arrest were conducted after a tip from one of its officers whose sister was among those being trafficked.
“The Nigerian Navy rescued 18 victims of human trafficking at about 10 p.m. on Saturday near Rijiyar Lemu in Kano State’s Ungogo Local Government Area,” it said in part.
“The rescue was done consequent to a tip-off from an officer in the Nigerian Navy Finance and Logistics College, Dawakin Tofa whose sister was being trafficked through Kano en route Libya and France. The NNFLC internal security staff reacted quickly after receiving the information.
“The team localised Rijiyar Lemu and Bachirawa locations where meticulous reconnaissance led to the rescue of the victims who were sheltered in an uncompleted building. Furthermore, two of the suspected traffickers were apprehended, while others remain at large.

The victims and suspects were handed over to the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons for further action, according to the Navy.
“Accordingly, the victims were detained in the custody of the College where medication and other essential attention were supplied.
The Kano Zonal Office of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and other connected matters was also notified.
As a result, the suspects and victims were handed over to NAPTIP for interrogation and further action on Monday, February 6, 2023,” the Nigerian Navy noted.
