Troops Conduct Successful Operations in Yobe, Borno, and Plateau States, Recovering Weapons and Arresting Bandits
In a series of coordinated counter-terrorism operations, troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully killed four terrorists and rescued kidnapped victims in Yobe and Borno states, while also apprehending bandits in Plateau State. These operations are part of ongoing efforts to combat insurgency and improve security in the region.
Targeted Assaults on Terrorist Cells
In Yobe State, troops launched an intelligence-driven assault on Boko Haram militants operating a tax collection point in the Ngazargamu area of Gujba Local Government. During the firefight, two terrorists were neutralized, and a significant cache of weapons was recovered, including:
- Two AK-47 rifles
- One FN rifle
- 19 rounds of 7.62 mm (special) ammunition
- Five rounds of 7.62 mm (NATO) ammunition
- Two additional AK-47 rifle magazines
- Three mobile phones
The successful operation underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-led military actions in disrupting terrorist activities and securing the area.
Engagement with ISWAP Fighters in Borno
In a related operation in Borno State, troops ambushed fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) along the Gamboru-Logomane road, resulting in the elimination of two terrorists. The troops also recovered two AK-47 rifles and other items, further weakening the operational capacity of the insurgents in the region.
Rescue Operations in the Federal Capital Territory
Separately, in the Kuje area of the Federal Capital Territory, Nigerian Army troops successfully rescued four kidnapped victims. Responding to a distress call regarding a kidnapping incident in Dafara Village, the troops engaged the assailants and managed to extricate the abductees safely.
Crackdown on Arms Smuggling in Plateau State
In Plateau State, the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with other security agencies, arrested four individuals involved in arms supply to terrorists. On October 17, 2024, troops apprehended a female firearms courier and her accomplice at Barikin Ladi Motor Park. Intelligence indicated that this gun-running syndicate was facilitating arms smuggling from Plateau to terrorist groups in Zamfara State. The operation yielded:
- 505 rounds of 7.62 mm (special) ammunition
Additionally, troops raided the residence of Alhaji Adamu Bajara, a wanted terrorist, in Ambakka village, near the Plateau-Nasarawa border. The operation led to the recovery of:
- Three AK-47 rifles
- Two rounds of 7.62 mm (special) ammunition
Response to Cattle Rustling
The Nigerian Army also responded to reports of cattle rustling in Mile 8, Pankshin Local Government Area, leading to the recovery of 46 stolen livestock after confronting the criminals. This swift action highlights the Army’s commitment to addressing various forms of insecurity in the region.
