Nigerian Students Leaving For UK With Families Has Economy Values For UK – UK Lawmaker

Carol Monaghan, a member of the UK parliament, has denounced the country’s new immigration law, which will prohibit overseas students from bringing their families to the country beginning in 2024.

Recall that the UK Home Office also disclosed on Tuesday that overseas students will not be permitted to change from a student visa to a work visa until their studies are finished.

However, Monaghan stated that the students and their families made significant contributions to the UK, bringing in £40 billion to the economy in 2022, in response to the immigration policy before parliament on Wednesday.

The UK legislator claims that because international students have abilities that have proven valuable across important sectors, they enhance UK society.

Monaghan questioned how the minister could overlook the fact that this approach will make labour shortages in the healthcare, STEM, and IT industries, to mention a few, worse. What analyses have been done about the financial effects of this shift on the university sector, may I ask the minister?

The truth is that many international students want their family to share their experiences with them in addition to their studies.

Without a method to bring their families, many international students would choose to enrol somewhere else, and any decline in the number of international students will hurt colleges that are already having financial problems. Universities in the UK have also protested the nation’s new immigration laws.

The country’s reputation as a top destination for international talent, according to Universities UK International (UUK), has been threatened by the move.

“Foreign students make a vital contribution to our universities and the UK’s economy,” said Jamie Arrowsmith, director of UUK. We have experienced substantial growth since 2019 as a result of the government’s specific promises and aspirations, which were outlined in the international education policy.
