NUC, (National Universities Commission) acting on the Federal Government directive has withdrawn its directive to vice-chancellors to reopen universities shutdown by ASUU in the past months.
The Federal Government had earlier on Monday, September 26, 2022, ordered the VCs to reopen their institutions so that students may continue lectures in a letter signed by the Director, Finance, and Accounts of the National Universities Commission, NUC, Sam Onazi.
It was discovered that the government had requested the commission to revoke the order in another circular with the number NUC/ES/138/Vol.
Onazi also put his signature on the circular, which omitted to explain why the government had changed course on ASUU
The FG stated that all pertinent parties would be informed of new developments and information.

The letter reads: “I have been directed to withdraw the National Universities Commission, NUC Circular Ref: NUC/ES/138/Vol.64/135, and dated September 23, 2022 on the above subject.
“Consequently, the said circular stands withdrawn. All pro-chancellors and chairmen of governing councils, as well as vice-chancellors of federal universities are to please note. Further development and information would be communicated to all relevant stakeholders.
“Please accept the assurances of the Executive Secretary’s warmest regards”
This is coming days after the National Industrial Court of Nigeria ordered the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to call off its ongoing nationwide strike.
ASUU has been on strike since Monday, February 14, 2022, to press home its demands from the government.
