Okupe Released, Says His Arrest Was Done In Error

Doyin Okupe, a former director general of the Labour Party’s campaign, has admitted that he was mistakenly detained by DSS agents.

Okupe, the most recent Director-General of the Labour Party’s presidential campaign organisation, was previously reported to have been detained at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

When he was pulled up by the DSS agents on Thursday morning, Okupe was his route to London for medical treatment, according to the lawyer Tolu Babaleye.

Babaleye stated that the LP chieftain was given the choice of paying a fine or producing proof that the Federal High Court in Abuja had released him in relation to the money laundering case for which he had just been found guilty.

He wrote: “I was arrested and detained at the MM international airport, Lagos this morning 12th Jan on my way to UK for medicals, years of my passport being with held by the FHC Abuja.

I have just left the EFCC office where senior officers in Lagos, and Abuja apologised to me for the error. OCCUPATIONAL Hazard abi?”
