OluMegbon Family Empowers Yabatech Fashion & Design Students with Three Industrial Machines
In a bid to empower outgoing students not to become job seeker but employers of labour, Miss Alade Olumegbon, on behalf of the family, donated three (3) industrial machines to the graduating students of Fashion Design Department, School of Art Design and Printing, Yaba College of Technology.
The donation was made as the star prizes to be awarded to the participants at the Graduate Fashion Show organized for the Higher National Diploma (HND2) students in Fashion Design Department, that are graduating, to showcase their creativity through their works.
The first position will go home with a steam iron, industrial machine and cash price, while the second and third position will win industrial machine and cash price as well.
Yabatech Fashion Design Department, of the School of Art, Design & Printing (SADP) also organized exhibition towards the celebration of the graduating students of the department tagged: Indigenous Pop.
The Dean, SADP, Dr Ndubuisi Chinyere, in her welcome address, emphasized the significance of the exhibition in spotlighting the exceptional talents nurtured within YABATECH.
She underscored the exhibition’s role in showcasing indigenous works that reflect the college’s commitment to fostering creativity and innovation which are being demonstrated through the students works and exhibits.
She said that the exhibition is a collection of indigenous work that portrayed the in-depth creativity of Yabatech products.
Head, Department of Fashion Design, Mrs. F.A Thompson, shed light on the department’s vision to transform waste into art which is expressed in the exhibition’s unique theme of repurposing discarded materials such as plastic waste and expired tires that can be sold to generate funds.
Mrs. Thompson highlighted the department’s innovative approach to sustainability, turning unwanted materials into captivating pieces of art that not only inspire but also contribute to environmental conservation efforts.
The Rector of Yaba College of Technology, Dr. Engr. Ibraheem Adedotun Abdul applauded the Fashion Design students for their consistent excellence, particularly highlighting their pivotal role in the recent 35th Convocation Ceremony Fellow’s Night. He expressed his admiration for the students’ talent and dedication, acknowledging the positive impact they have had on the college’s reputation.
Dr. Abdul further revealed exciting prospects for the department, announcing a collaboration between the College and the University of Northampton in the United Kingdom. He pledged to showcase some of the department’s standout creations in the UK, a move that promises to elevate the college’s profile on the global stage and open up new avenues for collaboration and recognition.
