Governor Rotimi Akeredolu government has listed the motorcycles and vehicles that wouldn’t be permitted to use the roads in Ondo State.
This is just as Ondo State also ban nightclubbing after midnight and the operation of commercial motorcycles in the state after 6 p.m.
Akogun Adeleye, the special adviser on security matters to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, made the announcement.
He stated that the legislation is still a high priority for the governor’s administration in order to secure the “protection of the lives and properties of the good people” of the state.
Adeleye, who is also the Corps Commander of Amotekun, besides banning nightclubbing in Ondo, warned that driving without a permit, driving unregistered automobiles, and driving with sticker number plates rather than car dealership-approved stickers are all illegal.
Amotekun is a Yoruba phrase that meaning “one who resembles a leopard,” with leopard translating to “amotekun.” On 9 January 2020, the six state governors of Nigeria’s South Western states, namely Lagos State, Oyo State, Ogun State, Ondo State, Osun State, and Ekiti State, created Operation Amotekun (Leopard).
He went on to say that the state government encourages all car and motorbike owners to register their automobiles and motorcycles or face the full wrath of the law.
“Any security agencies are hereby enjoined to seize all such motorcycles and vehicles, and the owners or riders will be prosecuted,” he stated.
In Ondo state, nightclubbing has been banned and motorcycle (Okada) operations limited.
