NRM Seeks to Disqualify Peter Obi Presidential Ambition Over Alleged Dual Citizenship
Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, has been sued by the National Rescue Movement for allegedly holding two citizenships.
According to the plaintiff in the new disqualification lawsuit filed at the Federal High Court and designated FHC/ABJ/CS/1842/2022, Peter Obi obtained the citizenship of Dallas, Texas, in violation of Sections 1 and 137 of the Nigerian Constitution.
INEC, Peter Obi, and the Labour Party are the first through third defendants in the lawsuit, respectively.
The plaintiff is asking the court to rule that Obi is ineligible to run for president due to a violation of the 1999 Constitution.
The lawsuit also requested a permanent injunction barring the Independent National Electoral Commission from granting Peter Obi any right or privilege to run for president.

The party provided a photo and a video of Peter Obi receiving the citizenship certificate in order to prove its argument.
The plaintiff was reprimanded by Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo for failing to serve the defendants with the original summons, and the court then set the case’s mention date for February 10th.
If the plaintiff didn’t serve the defendant with the court papers before the delayed date, Ekwo threatened to dismiss the case.
Peter Obi was stated to have freely gained Dallas citizenship and the certificate of citizenship was handed to him by the Mayor of Dallas, Mr Eric Johnson, in a 14-paragraph declaration in support of the lawsuit.
