Tinubu Approves Multi-Billion Naira Grants to Boost Agriculture in Nigerian Universities

Funding Aims to Enhance Food Production and Reduce Import Dependence
President Bola Tinubu’s administration has taken a major step towards transforming Nigeria’s agricultural sector by approving multi-billion naira grants for two federal universities of agriculture.
Grants to Support Agricultural Innovation
The announcement was made over the weekend by Doyin Johnson, a governing council member of the Federal University of Agriculture, Bayelsa State, during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Honour of State Icons in Lagos.
According to Johnson, these grants are part of President Tinubu’s strategic efforts to:
✅ Boost food production
✅ Empower smallholder farmers
✅ Reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imported food products
Funding Breakdown for Agricultural Universities
🔹 Federal University of Agriculture, Bayelsa: ₦2.64 billion
🔹 Federal University of Agriculture, Mubi: ₦2.64 billion
🔹 Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta: ₦7 billion
Johnson emphasized that these investments will help stabilize food prices and create a more self-sufficient agricultural economy.
Addressing Economic and Resource Challenges
Johnson also highlighted President Tinubu’s efforts to combat corruption and reform key sectors, including:
📌 Ending the oil subsidy scam
📌 Reforming the mining industry by revoking licenses and ensuring Nigeria benefits from its natural resources
📌 Introducing student loans to improve access to education
He assured Nigerians that better economic conditions are on the horizon, urging both local and diaspora communities to support the administration’s vision for national development.
