Nigerian Army Troops Deploy Ten Hilux Vehicles, 7 Armoured Tanks to Attack Obeagu Community, Burn Houses – Community Leaders

The Obeagu Community in the Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State is purportedly under attack by Nigerian Army troops.

The troops entered the community around 5 am on Monday, according to some community leaders who spoke with our correspondent that morning. They were allegedly shooting randomly and burning some houses.

Ten Hilux vehicles and seven armoured tanks carrying more than 100 troops were claimed to have been used by the soldiers as they invaded the neighbourhood.

Although it remained unclear why the troops broke into the neighbourhood, no one has been reported dead to date. According to reports, only one woman was struck by a stray bullet.

We woke up this morning to the sound of military gunshots from the troops, a community leader and recently-departed councillor claimed, confirming the invasion.

“I was in the church this morning at 5:30 when more than 30 military vehicles, including armoured tanks, drove into the neighbourhood.

”They quickly began intermittent gunfire after that. Nobody who attended church this morning had left yet. In the woods, I am responding to this summons, Ogbuabor remarked.”

However, according to information obtained by our correspondent, the occupying troops were interrogating some elderly and female arrestees about the whereabouts of the Indigenous People of Biafra camp in the neighbourhood.

Remember that on October 13, 2022, armed herdsmen broke into the neighbourhood, killing one, injuring two, and kidnapping three. The neighbourhood paid millions of dollars in ransom to get the kidnapped people back.

Also keep in mind that on March 29, 2021, armed herdsmen attacked the neighbourhood and killed 21 individuals. Throughout the invasion, which lasted for over 12 hours, neither the army nor the police intervened.

It was learned that despite recovering one of the attackers’ phones during the invasion last year, which was given to the vice president when he paid a visit to the neighbourhood a week after the horrifying incident, security officials had not yet arrested any of the attackers.
