UTME Resit Results: JAMB To Release 379,000 on Wednesday

UTME resit results of 379,000 candidates would be released on Wednesday 21, May 2025, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced.

While affected candidates are expecting their UTME resit results release on Wednesday, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede maintained that the decision to conduct a makeup examination came after numerous complaints of system failures and disruptions. According to him, the disruptions affected the performance of thousands of candidates, particularly those from Lagos State and the South-East region. JAMB openly acknowledged the lapses and pledged corrective measures.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, had earlier taken responsibility for the examination glitches and even broke down in tears while addressing stakeholders, stating that the board would ensure fairness and transparency in addressing the issues.

According to him, a total of 379,997 candidates were affected by the examination disruptions—206,610 from 65 centres in Lagos and 173,387 from 92 centres in the South-East.

Candidates Receive SMS Notifications for Resit

Affected candidates were notified through SMS messages starting Thursday of the previous week, informing them of the rescheduled dates. The UTME resit was conducted between Friday and Monday, and the board has now confirmed that the UTME resit results will be available for viewing on Wednesday.

Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s spokesperson, said:

“The results of the candidates who took the rescheduled exam will be released on Wednesday.”

Over 1.5 Million Original UTME Candidates Scored Below 200

In the wake of the initial exams, JAMB processed 1,955,069 results, out of which more than 1.5 million candidates scored below 200 marks—the midpoint in the UTME’s maximum score of 400. This statistic has sparked widespread concern about the integrity of the exam process.

Only 12,414 candidates scored 300 and above, which represents just 0.63% of the total number of examinees. The breakdown of scores is as follows:

7,658 candidates (0.39%) scored between 300 and 319
73,441 candidates (3.76%) scored between 250 and 299
334,560 candidates (17.11%) scored between 200 and 249
983,187 candidates (50.29%) scored between 160 and 199
488,197 candidates (24.97%) scored between 140 and 159
57,419 candidates (2.94%) scored between 120 and 139
3,820 candidates (0.20%) scored between 100 and 119
2,031 candidates (0.10%) scored below 100

JAMB Describes Disruptions as Sabotage

Prof. Oloyede labelled the disruptions during the original UTME as acts of sabotage, vowing that the board would strengthen its operational processes and continue to hold erring examination centres accountable.

“We will not allow those who sabotage our system to go unpunished. Our priority remains to ensure every candidate has a fair and credible opportunity to perform,” he stated.

UTME Resit Results Set, What Comes Next for Candidates?

With the UTME resit results set to be released, all candidates—both from the initial and rescheduled examinations—are expected to check their results online using the official JAMB portal or by SMS.
