JAMB Examination Town Policy: Board Debunks False Claims, Offers Reward for Proof

JAMB examination body has firmly debunked widespread misinformation regarding its examination centre allocation process, stating clearly that JAMB examination town policy ensures candidates are never assigned to towns outside their selected choices.
This clarification was issued following ongoing complaints from some parents and candidates, alleging that JAMB assigns Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidates to centres far from their preferred locations. However, JAMB insists such claims are entirely false and misleading.
Candidates Choose Their Examination Towns, Not JAMB
According to JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, candidates are given the opportunity to select their preferred examination towns at the time of registration. Once selected, JAMB assigns each candidate to a Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre within that exact town.
“This notion that JAMB sends candidates to centres outside their chosen towns is completely baseless,” Benjamin stated. “The truth is, JAMB respects the candidate’s choice and only allocates centres within the specified town.”

Misleading Narratives Undermine Trust in the System
Dr. Benjamin noted that some school proprietors and even students are behind this misinformation. They deceive parents into believing JAMB arbitrarily assigns exam towns, in order to cover up their own failings or logistical issues.
“These lies are aimed at tarnishing the image of the Board,” he said. “They are not only malicious but also dangerous to the trust JAMB has worked hard to earn.”
To address this ongoing campaign of misinformation, the Board is now offering a financial reward to anyone who can present verifiable evidence showing that a candidate was posted to a town outside the one chosen during registration.
JAMB Offers Reward for Authentic Proof
As part of efforts to promote transparency, JAMB has invited members of the public to submit any proof they may have. Such evidence should be sent within 96 hours to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) through WhatsApp at 08056003030.
“This way,” Benjamin said, “an independent body will determine the truth. Either the claimant gets the reward or JAMB is exonerated once and for all.”
Examination Process Requires Time for Verification
JAMB also addressed concerns raised by some parents over the total time spent by candidates at CBT centres. According to the Board, candidates are advised to arrive 90 minutes before the exam begins, to allow time for necessary identity and biometric verification.
“Just like air travellers are asked to arrive at the airport two hours before departure, candidates must also prepare ahead for verification,” Benjamin explained. “Parents expecting a two-hour exam to last only two hours are unaware of the preparatory steps involved.”
JAMB Reaffirms Its Commitment to Public Service
JAMB has urged Nigerians to give public institutions the benefit of the doubt, noting that the Board exists to serve the interest of all citizens. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to integrity, fairness, and the continuous improvement of Nigeria’s tertiary education admission process.
“Give us a trial,” Benjamin said. “You will see that JAMB operates with transparency and professionalism.”
Caution Against Superstitions and Unrealistic Expectations
On a lighter note, the Board also shared a bizarre incident involving a female UTME candidate. She reportedly sat through her entire examination without answering a single question, claiming her grandfather told her to expect a miracle during the exam.
“This is a dangerous mindset,” Benjamin remarked. “Miracles don’t replace preparation. Students must study and take responsibility.”
He advised candidates to avoid such superstitions and warned against dreaming of success without hard work. “There’s no reward for laziness. You can’t reap where you didn’t sow,” he concluded.
