Mojisola Meranda Officially Assumes Role as Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly

LAGOS – Mojisola Meranda has officially taken office as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, marking a new chapter in the Assembly’s leadership.
Meranda assumed office amidst widespread support from lawmakers, with former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa notably absent from the ceremony.
Celebratory Ceremony and Lawmakers’ Support
In a symbolic display of unity, lawmakers accompanied Meranda to her new office. Following the formal proceedings, the legislators chanted praises and urged her to “speak for Lagos” and continue her leadership.
The event concluded with intense prayers in her office, as Meranda settled into her role.
Obasa’s Reaction
The development follows former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa’s recent assertion that his removal was unconstitutional, claiming it did not follow due process.
Strengthened Security Measures
In light of the leadership transition, security around the Lagos State House of Assembly has been significantly bolstered.
A notice signed by Omotayo Adekemi on behalf of Acting Clerk Taiwo Ottun emphasized the importance of valid identification for entry into the premises.
The notice read:
“Following management directives, all staff members and legislative aides must present valid identity cards to access the House premises. Entry will be denied anyone without a valid ID card. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.”
The Lagos State Police Command has also assured the public of maintaining peace and order across the state.
State Commissioner of Police, Ishola Olawale, reiterated that while the police are not involved in the Assembly’s internal affairs, they will ensure calmness outside the premises and across Lagos.
