Ortom Withdraws Anti-Fulani Statements
Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom apologised to Nigerians on Wednesday for remarks deemed anti-Fulani.
Ortom, while hosting disgruntled governors of the Peoples Democratic Party at the Government House under the umbrella of the ‘G-5 Governors,’ which included Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), did lament last week’s killing of 18 people in his local government.
Ortom said: “To hell with Atiku and they should notify him. You want to make me a Fulani slave. It’s better for me to die. Anyone who backs Atiku is a foe of Benue.”
“My people are being slaughtered, and you want me to remain silent.” My term ends in May, and you are free to do whatever you want if you believe you have the authority.

”I have completed my will. My wife cried all night when I gave it to her. If I die at 62, many of my comrades will have died a long time ago, and if I die today, I will be a fulfilled person, but let it be noted that I died resisting the invasion and killing of my people,” Ortom added.
Ortom continued, “I will never vote for a Fulani man to be president.” If another person is willing to work with me to ensure the security of my people, I will do so.”
But Ortom apologised to everyone who was hurt by his statements on Wednesday when the G-5 governors visited Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi State, at the Ramat House.be offensive.
After their meeting in Bauchi, when media questioned Ortom about his remarks, he responded, “That was not what I meant when I was captured saying that.” But I am aware that if people had interpreted it the way I did, it would have been illogical.
