Yaba College of Technology Rector Voices Support for JAMB Amid 2025 UTME Challenges

By DAYO ADESULU

In a recent statement, Dr. Engr. I. A. Abdul, Rector of Yaba College of Technology, expressed his strong support for Professor Is-haq Oloyede, the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), in light of the challenges surrounding the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The examination, which faced significant technical glitches, affected nearly 380,000 candidates across 157 centers, particularly in Lagos and the South-East states. This disruption has understandably stirred concerns and distress among students and education stakeholders alike.

Professor Oloyede’s public apology and assumption of full responsibility for the incident have been acknowledged by Dr. Abdul as signs of commendable leadership. “His commitment to transparency and corrective measures, including rescheduling for the affected candidates, highlights his dedication to maintaining the credibility of our educational assessments,” Dr. Abdul noted.

The overall performance results of the 2025 UTME have raised further questions, prompting a call for improved collaboration among educational stakeholders. Dr. Abdul emphasized the complexities of administering large-scale examinations in an increasingly technological landscape, advocating for stronger systems to withstand unforeseen issues.

Yaba College of Technology has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting JAMB’s initiatives and reforms aimed at improving examination integrity and efficiency. “We stand in solidarity with Professor Oloyede, sharing his vision for a better future for JAMB,” Dr. Abdul stated, urging other educational leaders to adopt similar proactive leadership styles.

This expression of solidarity comes at a crucial time for JAMB as it navigates the fallout from the UTME disruptions, with hopes that collaborative efforts will lead to enhanced educational assessments moving forward.

The statement was issued on May 15, 2025.
